Meet the compassionate veterinarians, technicians, groomers, and support staff at Independence Veterinary who are dedicated to providing exceptional care for pets and outstanding service for the families who love them.
Dr. Erin Alessi
Dr. Erin Alessi is a graduate of Lakota West High School and has been a practicing veterinarian since 2009. She graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Erin started out as a mixed animal veterinarian, working on dairy cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, as well as dogs and cats in central Pennsylvania. In 2012, Dr. Alessi decided to return home with her supportive husband to be closer to family so they could raise their children. They have a son and a daughter in the Lakota Local Schools and they keep their parents ever busy with their activities as they grow. Dr. Alessi’s parents live in the area and her father is a local dentist, Howard B. Dean, DDS.
Dr. Alessi formed Independence Pet Hospital and opened the office in September 2020. She loves the relationships she has built with clients who own pets in Southwest Ohio. She truly feels that veterinarians aka Pet Doctors are really “pediatricians for pets” and intends to focus on patient-centered medicine for canines and felines.
Dr. Tara Amburgy
Dr. Tara Amburgy grew up in Lebanon, OH and completed her undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University, where she graduated with honors and research distinction with a degree in Anthropology. Dr. Amburgy received her doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. She completed a rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY before moving to Palm Beach, Florida where she worked in emergency and critical care at a specialty hospital for almost a decade, before returning to Ohio to be closer to family. A graduate of Lebanon High School, she has strong ties to the local community. Her husband teaches in the Lebanon city school district and together they are raising their young daughter, Kennedy, along with their beloved animals Winnie and Scarlet.
Dr. Amburgy has extensive knowledge in cardiology, internal medicine, dermatology, and puppy and kitten vaccination protocols, along with many other areas of care. She is excited to transition into general practice and looks forward to building lasting relationships with clients throughout our community.
