Dr. Erin Alessi’s Start
Independence Pet Hospital was formed in 2020 and it is owned by Dr. Erin Alessi. Dr. Alessi is a graduate of Lakota West High School and has been a practicing veterinarian since 2009. She graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Erin started out as a mixed animal veterinarian, working on dairy cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, as well as dogs and cats in central Pennsylvania. She had lots of Amish and Mennonite clients in that region and learned a lot about food resources and milk production. The practice had anywhere from 7 to 9 veterinarians and Dr. Alessi had excellent veterinary mentors who helped advise her how to become the doctor she is today. Her friendships created there are a lasting aspect of her integrity as an individual.
Home Life
In 2012, Dr. Alessi decided to return home with her supportive husband to be closer to family so they could raise their children. They have a son and a daughter in the Lakota Local Schools and they keep their parents ever busy with their activities as they grow. Dr. Alessi’s parents and grandparents live in the area and her father is a local dentist, Howard B. Dean, DDS. Their “four-legged” family also includes two dogs, Ella (Dr. Alessi’s first dog from veterinary school) and Shelby.
Dr. Alessi’s Passion for This Pet Hospital
Since returning to this area, Dr. Alessi has worked in a small animal exclusive practice until the start of this practice in 2020. She loves the relationships she has built with clients who own pets in Southwest Ohio. She truly feels that veterinarians aka Pet Doctors are really “pediatricians for pets” and intends to focus on patient-centered medicine for canines and felines.
